What is the Gut-Brain axis?
The gut-brain connection refers to the physical and chemical connections between the gut and the brain. The neurotransmitters and microorganisms present in the gut can alter the balances in the brain, while the hormones and neurotransmitters in the brain can alter the gut concentrations as well. This two way connection is also intertwined with the immune system, putting the brain and gut at the center for many neurological and gastrointestinal disorders.
